Dear Friends,
We are sure that you have visited the Three Primary Colors Workshop located at 31 Dashizuo Hutong, in Jingshan Qian Jie, and that you have had an impression of Huiling’s trainees’ grace in receiving international tour groups through their own effort and self-reliance. Beginning in 2000, we have made this place our home. We began receiving tour groups in 2003. In this courtyard, we have attracted over 1000 guests from over thirty countries to honor us with their presence. Each year, we earned 200,000 yuan, becoming a brilliant example that distinctively combined employment opportunities and shelter. Through performing our programs among the people and interactive games, we demonstrated Beijing’s traditional culture Chinese disabled people’s ambitions, winning honor for our homeland. This place is also a good location to hold cooperative and friendship-building activities among NGO’s; our courtyard is a symbol of friendship.
Unfortunately, the winter snow came especially early this year, apparently foretelling Huiling’s sorrow, for now with tears, we must tell our friends some information which we cannot avoid.
Because the military landlord wants to renovate a house, he told us beforehand on November 1, 2009 that once the rent was due, he would not renew our lease. We had no choice but to accept this situation, so we addressed all levels of the disabled community in writing and face-to-face, explaining the situation and earnestly requesting help. Over the course of a month we searched and searched nonstop, repeatedly grinding back and forth to decide on the price. We decided that on December 3, 2009, “International Disabled People’s Day,” we would move into the small courtyard of 110 Dongsi Yanyue Hutong. In the middle of the noisy courtyard residence, we brought stillness and decorated with ancient scents and colors to penetrate it with a classical atmosphere. Although the area is small and the price is expensive, we can preserve the symbol of courtyard culture as the medium for Three Primary Colors.
Our friends will probably call this into question: If it is so expensive, why does Huiling absolutely have to have this kind of courtyard?
Yes, we are very stubborn because this is about a dream of ours – we dream of once again expanding our tourism industrial chain and linking up sightseeing tours, accommodation, food, and selling distinctive souvenirs. We also dream of founding a cooperative to match learning-disabled people with parents who are both “business owners” and “workers.”
Our dream is feasible. We are already taking steps along the road to realizing our dream! When realizing our dream, we do not want to leave our friends. Today, we use the happiness we had all along to show our thankfulness and our sorrow. We beg you to help us just as before.
1, Help us, to the greatest possible extent, to make use of the courtyard by publicizing each of the services offered by Three Primary Colors. When you are on vacation, or want to rent a place to host a party, please rent our small courtyard (The four rooms in the south are only 40 square meters each). We can provide tea, water, beverages, and snacks, and can use our small kitchen to cook meals.
2. We need a 15-seat travel van, which will be used to pick uptourists. (What the international travel agency initially agreed to was: At 12:00pm, the tour group would walk to Huiling to eat lunch and watch the show, only stopping for two hours. Initially, walking the distance to the courtyard only required ten minutes. Now that we have moved farther away, we need a van to pick up and drop off the tourists, otherwise, the time spent walking will mean that some tourists will lose interest. We ask our friends to help us, either by donating an old van or by donating money to buy a van.
The courtyard in the hutong, our shared dream!
Dear friends, thank you for neither leaving nor abandoning Huiling Beijing over these ten years.
